Sanctions Left Russians Without Spare Parts and Modern Tires for Cars

The stoppage of car factories and the shortage of new cars for most brands are not the only consequences of the sanctions for Russian motorists. They are also left without car components.

Leading global manufacturers of auto components are also massively leaving the Russian market. In particular, Bosch announced the shutdown of all its plants – the Germans were outraged that their components were found in trophy Russian equipment. Previously, the company had already ceased the supply of products to the Russian market.

And Bosch is not alone; other spare parts manufacturers have also stopped exports to Russia. As a result, prices for auto parts in Russia have surged twofold and more, and some parts have already become scarce.

The cost of some spare parts is impressive – brake pads for a Volkswagen Touareg will cost 15 thousand rubles, and calipers – 160 thousand. A new DSG gearbox for an Audi A3 from 2013-2016 will cost 3.8 million rubles – all due to the shortage.

Experts predict that even simple consumables will soon become scarce. And also – regular tires. Recently, Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin, Pirelli, and Yokohama have closed plants and stopped supplying tires to Russia.

Michelin and Yokohama enterprises produced 1.5-1.6 million tires per year. So, it seems that soon Lexuses and Mercedes will have to be fitted with Kama tires, or perhaps “imported” Belshina tires.
