The year 2020 has just begun, and for many it’s not easy—the holidays stretched on. But to motivate you a bit more, we decided, as is tradition, to calculate how much gasoline a Ukrainian can buy with one salary, as of now. Let’s recall, in 2011, a Ukrainian’s salary was enough for 267 liters of gasoline, in 2014—for 238 liters, and in 2015—for 212 liters. Not the best trend, is it? But let’s move on to the most interesting part: how many liters of gasoline can an average Ukrainian buy today…
As in previous years, we focus on the average salary figures in Ukraine, based on data from the Ministry of Finance.
Rounded off, today this number is 10,700 UAH, although we understand that some can only dream of such a salary in remote areas. So, the average price of A-95 gasoline is 27.09 UAH. This means that an average Ukrainian’s salary will be enough for just under 395 liters.
And although the Ministry of Economy acknowledged that Ukrainians earn three times less than Poles and Latvians, the long-promised “improvement” is arguably visible. Yet there is a rhetorical and somewhat political question here—whose achievement is it?
