Old Chevrolet Auctioned off for the Price of a New Bugatti en

In the USA, a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L88 was sold at the Mecum auction. The coupe fetched an incredible $2.45 million – the price of a Bugatti Chiron hypercar.

However, such a price is quite justified, as only 20 Chevrolet Corvette L88s were produced in 1967. Essentially, it was a road-going version of a racing model that won its class at Le Mans.

The coupe is equipped with a 7-liter V8 that developed 430 hp on paper, but in reality – around 560 hp. The official power was understated to reduce insurance costs.

With a 4-speed manual transmission, acceleration to a hundred took about 5 seconds, and the maximum speed reached 275 km/h. The car received a strengthened transmission, a more efficient radiator, and a retuned suspension.

This particular car underwent a complete restoration and since then has traveled only 560 km, while also collecting a bunch of awards at various retro shows.

This is not the highest price for a Corvette L88 – the record is $3.85 million. By the way, another L88 was also recently sold at auction, but from the next generation.
