Audi may build a plant in the USA
Despite the fact that BMW and Mercedes have long had large plants in the USA, Audi has so far refrained from such a step. However, due to tariffs imposed by President Trump, the company may change its strategy. There were earlier rumors that Audi would produce cars at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, but now the option of building a new plant is being considered.
According to sources, the plant could be located in the southern United States, and its cost is estimated at 4.6 billion dollars. This would be a logical step after the construction of the Scout plant in South Carolina. An Audi representative confirmed that the company is exploring various scenarios for expanding its presence in the USA, and a decision could be made this year.
We are confident that we will make a decision this year in consultation with the Volkswagen Group regarding specific details.
Despite the fact that German automakers are actively calling for a trade agreement between the USA and the EU, the situation remains uncertain. The Trump administration is likely to demand greater investment in the USA, but the details are not yet known.
Audi’s potential decision to build a plant in the USA could be an important step for the company, especially given the political and economic challenges. It could also affect the competitive balance among German automakers in North America, where BMW and Mercedes already have a significant manufacturing base.
