Updated Toyota Avalon 2027 prepared for presentation in China

Updated Toyota Avalon for China

Toyota is preparing to introduce an updated version of the Avalon sedan in China. This model, which was discontinued in the US after 2022, continues to live on in the Asian market and receives a significant exterior update.

Design and exterior changes

The model, quietly revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, effectively combines elements from the Camry and the rear-wheel-drive Crown. As a result, the Avalon has a familiar front end with C-shaped lighting units and a large grille with vertical slats. These are joined by vertical air intakes and a angular front bumper.

Although the documents do not show many details of the side profile, it appears to remain almost unchanged. However, updated 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels can be expected.

Rear end and technical specifications

More significant changes occur at the rear: new split taillights have appeared. The Avalon badge has also moved from the light bar to the middle of the trunk lid. Additionally, the license plate recess has been relocated to the redesigned bumper.

According to the documentation, there will be two versions, with lengths of 196.5 inches (4,990 mm) and 199 inches (5,055 mm). Both are reported to have an engine producing 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS), although one version will have a hybrid powertrain and an HEV badge, which is said to increase power to 184 hp (137 kW / 186 PS). This is likely to allow fuel consumption of up to 4.31 L/100 km (54.6 mpg), depending on the tires.

Interestingly, Toyota decided not just to refresh the design but to substantially rework the car’s rear end, indicating a serious approach to updating the model for the Chinese market. The combination of elements from the Camry and Crown could be an attempt to create a unique image that will attract buyers looking for something between a mass-market sedan and a premium vehicle. The hybrid version with low fuel consumption also aligns with current market trends, where efficiency is becoming an increasingly important factor.
