Everything is so soulful, like at home: Russia has started producing Euro-0 standard cars

UAZ has started selling cars featuring Euro-0 standard engines. In Europe, cars of this ecological class were banned for sale back in 1992, and in Russia — in 2005. In Ukraine, it should be noted, Euro-5 standards are currently in place, but they were relaxed after February 24 for the duration of martial law.

There is no martial law in Russia (only a “special operation”), but it was decided there that “import substitution” is not possible without some adjustments. That’s why the Ulyanovsk plant started installing “zero” engines on the UAZ “Hunter” and SGR models (the latter are usually called “Loaves”). We note that the Russian government decree No. 855, signed in May 2022, allows local car manufacturers to make cars with engines of any environmental standard.

But even despite such government leniency (and stupidity, but that’s not our business) regarding environmental standards in the country, prices for new cars in Russia are surprising. To give an idea, a single-cab UAZ “Loaf” with a Euro-0 engine now costs 1,280,000 “rubles” there, which is almost 800,000 hryvnias in conversion. For a UAZ, cargo, the simplest and cheapest. Not to mention the Lada Vesta priced like a new Toyota Camry in Ukraine… #HowSoulfulHere #LikeAtHome
