New fine for Ukrainian drivers from May 1st

New provisions of the Rules of the Road are coming into force in Ukraine. According to them, low beam headlights outside the city remain mandatory after May 1. The corresponding changes to the Rules of the Road were introduced by Cabinet of Ministers decree No. 1105 of October 20, 2023, reported by Focus. Drivers must now turn on low beam headlights or daytime running lights outside urban areas year-round. Previously, a similar requirement existed only in the autumn-winter period – from October 1 to May 1. The new rules are aimed at making vehicles more visible on the road. Despite better visibility in summer, vehicles with headlights on can be noticed from a greater distance. Moreover, similar requirements have long been in place in EU countries, so Ukraine’s road rules have been synchronized with European standards. In conditions of reduced visibility, high beam headlights are allowed, but care must be taken not to blind drivers of oncoming vehicles. The punishment for this violation of the Rules of the Road remains unchanged. The fine for not turning on low beam headlights ranges from 425 to 510 hryvnias.
