In the USA, at the Bonhams auction, a station wagon Mercedes-Benz W123 from 1979 was sold. An unremarkable at first glance car was sold for $138,000. This was reported by Focus. The reason is that an extremely rare Mercedes 500 TE AMG went under the hammer. Such estates were produced in limited quantities, as in the late 70s, the AMG company was still producing cars in small batches. The Mercedes 500 TE AMG estate is equipped with a 5.2-liter fuel-injected V8 engine producing 300 hp. It is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The suspension has been upgraded, and enlarged disc brakes have been installed on all wheels. Interestingly, the charged version externally differs little from the standard Mercedes W123. The estate is slightly lowered, received a modest body kit, a small rear spoiler, and BBS wheels. Doubled exhaust pipes are visible from the rear. The interior of the Mercedes 500 TE AMG is decorated with red-black leather and wood. It also has sports steering wheel and seats. The Mercedes W123 estate has been quite well preserved. The car has only covered 82.9 thousand km in its 45 years of existence.
