The demand for electric cars is increasing in Ukraine

The Association of Ukrainian Automakers reported that in May 2019, 643 electric vehicles were sold in Ukraine. The most in-demand are passenger cars, but it was unexpected that Ukrainians began to purchase commercial electric transport. According to representatives of the Association, the demand for electric cars continues to grow and has increased 1.5 times compared to 2018. Although Ukraine cannot yet catch up with many Western and Eastern countries in electric vehicle sales, experts at Avto.pro decided to find out whether such transport will be more popular among domestic car enthusiasts in the future.

What models are being purchased

According to statistics, many electric vehicles on Ukrainian roads turned out to be used, as the new electric transport is too expensive for the vast majority of buyers.

However, it is worth noting that the demand for exclusive and expensive Teslas is gradually increasing. In May 2019, the following electric vehicles were sold:

  • Nissan Leaf – 329 vehicles;
  • Tesla Model S – 53 vehicles;
  • BMW i3 – 46 vehicles;
  • Fiat 500e – 24 vehicles;
  • Renault Zoe – 23 vehicles.

The Nissan Leaf is still incredibly in demand. According to Ukrainian car enthusiasts, the creation of the Japanese concern is the best electric car for the following reasons: significant range, fast charging, dynamics, relatively affordable price, attractive design, excellent build quality. Moreover, non-original Nissan parts are often sold at very democratic prices, so maintaining a Leaf is not very expensive. Independent car enthusiasts say that renting a Nissan Leaf is also quite popular.

For example, an electric vehicle is rented for further use as a taxi. With it, taxi drivers not only earn money but also get immense pleasure from driving.

An interesting novelty

The most surprising novelty in the automotive market was the Renault Kangoo Z.E. This is a fully electric production vehicle with increased payload capacity, which can be used as commercial transport. Compared to the Leaf, the Kangoo Z.E.

has a higher consumption, the difference being 25-30%, yet this model became one of the most popular in Ukraine in 2019. Today, a limited number of electric vans are already actively used by the delivery service. It is worth noting that both companies and drivers are satisfied with the Renault Kangoo Z.E.

Price dynamics as a determining factor

In the first half of 2019, there is a growing demand for electric cars among Ukrainians. Will this trend continue in the future?

Experts say yes. Bloomberg Agency reports that electric cars have managed to become 6% cheaper compared to the previous period. By 2030, their price will decrease by at least 30%. Accordingly, many new concerns, as well as ambitious startups, will enter the market. There will be more electric vehicles, and their cost will gradually decrease.

Let us recall that a year ago, many analysts predicted a collapse in electric vehicle sales in Ukraine. However, the latest statistics allow us to conclude that neither concerns nor importers should fear reduced demand, as it will only grow in the future.
