Unexpected Minivan Adventure
The Honda Odyssey seems like one of the least suitable cars for high-speed adventures. However, that didn’t stop a body shop employee who treated the customer’s family minivan like a sports car. He accelerated it to 140 km/h in a roadwork zone with an 80 km/h limit and was caught by the police. This entire incident, which likely occurred in Canada, was recorded by the car’s dashcam.
The Odyssey owner shared the recording on Reddit after the van was temporarily impounded. According to him, the minivan was at the service center for repairs after a rear-end collision. While there, the workshop discovered a minor technical issue and arranged for it to be checked by a mechanic.
High-Speed Highway Ride
While returning the car, the employee behind the wheel decided to test what the minivan’s V6 engine was capable of. Instead of adhering to the speed limit, he accelerated on the highway to approximately 140 km/h.
The dashcam recording shows the employee enjoying the moment, seemingly reveling in his brief “victory,” telling someone on the phone that he is the “alpha” behind the wheel of a very non-alpha vehicle.
It was at this moment that the police appeared. The tone instantly changed. The confident ride turned into a timid vehicle stop as an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) pulled over the minivan. The reason for the escalation is simple: 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone qualifies as excessive speeding. The authorities immediately impounded the customer’s car for seven days. The consequences didn’t end there.
Consequences for the Novice Driver
According to the Odyssey owner, the driver had a learner’s permit, which could have even more serious implications for his driving privileges. Regardless of what happens to his license, the employee has already lost his job after the auto service owner learned about the incident. Of course, it’s also worth noting how vitally important the presence of a dashcam was in this situation.
The police requested the recording, undoubtedly to help hold the driver accountable. Without it, things might have turned out differently. Fortunately, the auto service seems to have handled the aftermath very well.
The owner recounts that the service covered all costs associated with the impoundment, professionally cleaned the minivan, and even offered to take the family out to dinner to compensate for the experience. Not a bad job of restoring trust, although it all stems from one brief moment of “alpha” energy from an adult who behaved like a child behind the wheel of a minivan that did not belong to him at all.

This case vividly illustrates how technologies like dashcams have become a key tool for protecting car owners’ rights and documenting offenses. At the same time, it demonstrates the importance of professional ethics in service industries. The auto service management’s reaction, aimed at fully compensating the customer for damages and moral harm, can serve as an example of how a business should respond to employee mistakes to preserve reputation and trust. The incident also serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of speeding, especially for young drivers whose licenses can be easily lost due to one irresponsible action.
