Crossover ZAZ Odessa: Another Piece of Gossip or a New People’s Car in Ukraine?

Zaporozhets and Tavria have long been in the past, but in 2022 a new people’s car may appear in Ukraine. As with Lanos, ZAZ Vida, and other vehicles produced at the Zaporozhye auto plant, it is not about manufacturing from scratch, but rather assembling based on existing models.

TopGir has already made an inquiry about the new model announced in the media and social networks under the name Odessa, but meanwhile, let’s briefly discuss what is planned, in theory. According to unofficial data, the ZAZ Odessa will be rolling off the assembly line as early as the end of 2022. The novelty will be a crossover, which, as is customary, will probably be a rebadged version of an existing vehicle.

In this case, it is about an off-road ZAZ based on the FAW Besturn T77. Rumor has it, the new Ukrainian (or pseudo-Ukrainian) crossover will cost around 550,000-700,000 hryvnias (depending on configuration) and will be equipped with a digital dashboard, multimedia with support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto, climate control, etc.

The powertrain specifics are yet unknown, but again, according to rumors, the ZAZ Odessa will receive a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with 160 hp. The transmission will be either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed robotized gearbox. Whether it will be only front-wheel drive or also have all-wheel-drive options is still unclear.

In general, we are waiting for an official response from ZAZ and remind you that currently, ZAZ produces Renault Arkana and Lada.

P.S. Interestingly, the news about the new ZAZ crossover came from Russian media.
