by The winners of the Car of the Year Japan 2020 competition have been announced. The Car of the Year in Japan became the Toyota RAV4 crossover, marking the first victory for a Japanese brand at home in the past 10 years. 
Moreover, for the first time in three years, a local model won in Japan – previously, the Volvo crossovers were recognized as the best twice. The jury noted the good driving qualities, a comfortable suspension, a large trunk, and the ability to choose different types of all-wheel drive (in the hybrid version, for example, the rear wheels are driven by an electric motor). The second place in the competition was taken by the new Mazda 3, and the third by the BMW 3 Series.
The BMW trio also won in the import car category. The most innovative was the updated Nissan Skyline (twin of Infiniti Q50), and the best city kei car was the Nissan Dayz/Mitsubishi eK.
