This car, known as the Mark IV Bugazzi, is a unique custom work created in California based on a 1973 Lincoln Continental. It is being prepared for auction, and its owner will probably have to explain to the neighbors every time what this amazing vehicle is that is leaving their yard.
Extravagant Design by Hollywood Coach Builders
The bold and theatrical appearance of the car is the work of Hollywood Coach Builders. It is believed that about 12 such cars were built, but only two have survived to this day. To create this look, most of the original body panels were removed from the car and replaced with completely new ones.
Radical Exterior Changes
The front of the car impresses with its boldness. It features a towering chrome-plated radiator grille that resembles a Rolls-Royce more than a product of Detroit, flanked by round headlights in square chrome frames. The front fenders extend forward beyond the bumper and are also adorned with chrome.
The overall look is complemented by a low stance thanks to a lowered suspension, whitewall tires, and silver wheels, which complete this unique style.
The rear of the Lincoln is also incredible: here you can see a newly created roof, modified rear panels, and a new trunk lid with a spare tire mount. The auction house Mecum Auctions, handling the sale, notes that the car is painted in a brilliant Gold Pearl shade with Ice Pearl accents and hand-painted graphics.
An Equally Impressive Interior
The Continental’s interior is no less impressive than its exterior. The undeniable accents are the elements made of solid granite, which adorn the transmission tunnel, the rear console, and all four door panels. In the event of sudden braking, this granite might prove to be the most loyal “passenger” in the cabin, adding a certain weightiness to the impressions. Furthermore, the seats and dashboard have also been completely redesigned.
The interior features elements of solid granite on the transmission tunnel, rear console, and all four door panels.
Technical Features
Few details about the technical aspects have been revealed, but it is known that the car gets its power from a 460-cubic-inch V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission taken from a Chevrolet Corvette C6.
Auction and Expectations
There is no information yet on the estimated value of this custom Lincoln, but undoubtedly, it will generate great interest among fans of unusual automotive creations.
Some decisions shape character. Others generate very long conversations.
This car is a vivid example of 1970s automotive culture, when experiments with design and materials knew no bounds. The use of granite in the interior, pearl paint, and the radical change in silhouette make the Mark IV Bugazzi not just a car, but an art object on wheels. Its future owner will receive not only a means of transportation but also a piece of custom car-building history, which undoubtedly requires special care and, perhaps, a readiness to answer many questions. Such projects remind us that a car can be an expression of personality and creative freedom, even if that freedom sometimes looks very extravagant.
