Rivian brings back the ‘Forest Edge’ interior for R1S and R1T
Rivian has revived the Forest Edge interior option for its R1S and R1T models, which was previously removed from the lineup. Buyers can now order this trim again, but only for a limited time.
An interior reminiscent of a forest
The Rivian R1S and R1T have always been aimed at a specific type of buyer — those who hike, camp, and view nature as a destination, not just a backdrop. Or, more honestly, those who want to look like they do. Given that, it’s somewhat surprising that it took Rivian so long to revive one of the best interior options it once offered — one that transforms the cabin into something akin to a private forest.
A limited-time offer
The interior, named Forest Edge, was available a few years ago but then quietly disappeared from the R1 family. Now it returns for both the R1S and R1T, but only for a limited time. Rivian has not specified how long this offer will last, though it is likely to attract many takers.
A rich green shade of eco-leather covers most key surfaces in the cabin, including the seats, door panels, and center console lid. It also extends up the pillars and onto the headliner. To avoid excess, Rivian pairs it with Brown Ash Wood trim on the doors and dashboard, along with plenty of black vegan leather and a few subtle yellow accents that tie the whole design together.
What else is included in the package?
Buyers wanting the Forest Edge interior will be able to pair it with only three exterior colors: Glacier White, Half Moon Grey, or Forest Green. Additionally, models with Forest Green paint include the Darkout package with 22-inch sport dark wheels as standard, but 20-inch off-road dark wheels are also available as an option. The Sound + Vision package also comes standard, adding Rivian’s dynamic glass roof and a premium audio system.
Cost and limitations
Perhaps the most notable downside of the Forest Green option is that it is only available for Dual-Motor configurations with the Max Pack, which start at $83,990 for the R1S and $79,999 for the R1T. The Forest Edge package adds $9,000 to the price of both models, raising their MSRP to $92,990 for the R1S and $88,990 for the R1T.
The return of the Forest Edge interior is an interesting move for Rivian, highlighting the company’s commitment to meeting demand for unique and sustainable trim options. While the option is only available for the most expensive configurations, it could be a key factor for buyers looking not just for an SUV or pickup, but a way to express their love for nature. It’s worth noting that the limited nature of the offer may create additional buzz, but at the same time restricts choice for those not willing to pay for top-tier versions. This decision also demonstrates how Rivian tries to balance exclusivity with mass appeal, offering distinctive details that set its vehicles apart from competitors like the Tesla Cybertruck or Ford F-150 Lightning.
