Updated Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Spotted During Testing
While Porsche has been trying to focus attention on its new electric Cayenne, the latest spy shots may complicate that task. Photographers have captured another prototype of the updated Cayenne with an internal combustion engine, and this is the “hot” version.
Last month we saw the updated Cayenne GTS, which could be identified by its four round exhaust tips. This prototype appears to be the top-of-the-line Turbo E-Hybrid version, revealed by the signature square exhaust finishers.
Like the previous prototype, this car wears only light camouflage, suggesting a near-term launch for the model, likely as a 2027 model year vehicle. Unfortunately for those hoping for a radical redesign, Porsche seems to be taking a restrained approach.
Exterior Changes and Interior Updates
The front end retains the same LED headlights as before, but this car has separate central radiator grille bars, whereas the current Turbo E-Hybrid version features double bars. At the rear, square exhaust tips frame the lower section of the bumper, which is styled as a mini diffuser.
It appears there are few exterior changes, but the most significant updates may be invisible from the outside. We recently saw a prototype of the updated Panamera with a carefully concealed center console, sparking speculation about replacing physical climate control buttons with a touchscreen interface.
A More Digital Experience
If this happens, the ICE-powered Cayenne will almost certainly receive the same update, bringing it closer to the new electric Cayenne. The EV, launched last year, features a more digital instrument panel, making the current ICE Cayenne look somewhat dated.
Specifications and Prospects
Under the hood of the current Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 paired with an electric motor, producing 729 hp (739 PS) and 950 Nm of torque. Porsche has not disclosed plans for the updated version, but a modest power increase would help narrow the gap with the electric Cayenne Turbo, which boasts 1140 hp (850 kW).
This third-generation Cayenne dates back to 2017 and has already received a major update for the 2024 model year in preparation for the EV’s arrival. However, in the first half of 2026, this model became Porsche’s global bestseller, and now that the brand has decided to pay more attention to ICE vehicles, it seems the Cayenne will remain on the market for several more years.
Interestingly, Porsche continues to invest in updates for the internal combustion engine model, despite the active development of its electric lineup. This indicates the company aims to satisfy demand from different customer groups, especially those not ready to fully switch to electric vehicles. The interior update with a more modern digital panel could be a key factor in maintaining the model’s competitiveness as the market increasingly focuses on technological sophistication and multimedia system integration.
