Morgan presents exclusive Midsummer Coupe by Pininfarina
Morgan continues to develop its bespoke order division by introducing the new Midsummer Coupe. This is an extremely rare fixed-roof version based on the 2024 Midsummer Barchetta. Only nine examples will be produced, and all have already found their owners.
The project idea arose after a Morgan client asked whether the Barchetta could be converted into a coupe. Instead of simply fitting a hardtop to the existing model, the British company approached the task as creating an entirely new body from scratch.
Roof design and construction
The coupe shape was developed in collaboration with the Pininfarina design house, which had already worked on the original Midsummer model. The roof changed the car’s proportions, and the designers integrated it into the overall body line with a smooth taper toward the rear. Most of the roof is made of glass, flooding the cabin with light and visually lightening the structure.
According to Morgan, the roof provides “greater refinement, improved weather protection, and enhanced touring capabilities,” allowing the Midsummer Coupe to be used “across a wider range of conditions.”
The door handles are integrated into the aluminum beltline, harmonizing with the central body spine. The model retains the front end, hand-formed ventilated wings, and polished stainless steel details from the Barchetta, but features unique 19-inch forged multi-spoke wheels.
Technical features and interior
Creating the roof required “significant structural development and a fundamentally different approach to the car’s architecture,” resulting in increased body rigidity. The new panel includes “machined aluminum A-pillars, bonded structural glazing, and a blind-riveted construction.”
The weight increase proved minimal: the Midsummer Coupe is only 2.5% heavier than the Supersport with a hardtop. Beneath the hand-formed aluminum body lies a wooden frame, a Morgan tradition.
The two-seat cabin combines leather, wood, and aluminum, while the altered roofline adds a bit more space behind the headrests. Each of the nine owners will be able to customize the car to their taste, which is the main goal of such a project.
Powertrain and price
Under the hood, the special edition retains the traditional Morgan platform and BMW’s 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine.
Morgan does not disclose the price of the Midsummer Coupe, but the limited run of nine cars and bespoke execution likely make it significantly more expensive than the 50-unit Midsummer Barchetta, which cost around £200,000 ($260,000). The presented prototype is not among the nine customer cars and will be displayed in the Louwman Collection in The Hague.
This project demonstrates how Morgan continues to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and design. The collaboration with Pininfarina allows the British manufacturer to create truly unique cars that not only preserve the spirit of classic models but also meet the demands of modern buyers. The fact that all nine examples were sold before the official unveiling highlights the high demand for such exclusive items among collectors and enthusiasts. The use of a BMW engine ensures reliability and performance, while the wooden frame recalls the brand’s rich history dating back to the early 20th century.
