The cheapest Suzuki electric car has kei car format and is heading to Europe

New affordable Suzuki electric car to enter European market

Suzuki plans to introduce its new compact electric car in Europe and the UK in spring 2027. This will be the production version of the Vision e-Sky concept, part of the brand’s strategy for affordable electric vehicles. The model is expected to start at a price below £20,000.

Dimensions and design of the new model

The new electric car, which does not yet have an official name, will be smaller than the Suzuki Swift, which measures 3,860 mm in length. The Vision e-Sky concept conforms to Japanese kei car standards and has a length of 3,395 mm. The production version is expected to retain the main design features of the prototype, though minor changes in bumpers, lighting, door handles, and mirrors are possible.

Market positioning

David Kettley, head of Suzuki in the UK, shared his thoughts on the new model:

An A-segment electric car is extremely important. It is an entry into a new segment for us, and I am very optimistic about its prospects.

Technical specifications and range

Suzuki has not yet disclosed details about the electric motor or battery capacity. It is only known that the concept had a claimed range of over 270 km. For comparison, the competitor Renault Twingo E-Tech offers 263 km under the WLTP cycle, while the Honda Super-N offers 206 km.

Price and competition

The new Suzuki will cost less than £20,000, putting it in the same league as the Twingo E-Tech and Super-N. At the same time, some other city electric cars, such as the Dacia Spring (from £16,000) and the future production version of the VW ID.Every1 concept (around £17,000), may be cheaper.

Impact on Suzuki’s strategy

The new electric model will help Suzuki meet strict emission regulations in Europe and the UK. Currently, the brand relies on mild hybrids and hybrid powertrains, and the only fully electric vehicle is the e Vitara. According to recent data, Suzuki’s third electric car is expected to appear by 2029, likely in a crossover body style.

Suzuki Vision e-Sky Concept

Thus, Suzuki is betting on a compact and affordable electric car that aims to become a key player in the urban electric vehicle segment. Entering the market in 2027 will allow the company to compete with established models and strengthen its position amid strict environmental regulations. This step demonstrates Suzuki’s desire to expand its electric lineup, despite currently having only one model. It is worth noting that pricing and technical specifications will be decisive factors for the success of the new model in a highly competitive market.
