Upgraded Lexus LBX shows off its improvements next to the standard Morizo RR

Spy photographers have again captured a prototype of a more extreme version of the Lexus LBX Morizo RR. This time it was photographed next to the standard model, and they also looked inside the cabin. Such an appearance during testing hints that the Japanese brand is preparing an even more driver-focused crossover that could become the most radical in its segment.

Exterior differences and body

The front has hardly changed, but a careful look reveals a small lower splitter on the bumper. This is a minor but telling detail that distinguishes the prototype from the production LBX. Camouflage is also visible on the roof, which could indicate the use of a carbon-fiber panel. This is unusual for a crossover, but Toyota has already used a carbon roof in the more expensive versions of the GR Corolla.

Rear and aerodynamics

The changes continue at the rear. Earlier images indicated that the car might get a carbon-fiber rear bumper. In addition, functional vents are visible between the two exhaust pipes. Above is a new spoiler, which may also be made of carbon. It has a split design with two central supports and an air channel between the levels.

Interior and equipment

The interior is generally recognizable, but the prototype appears to have lightweight sports seats made from a combination of leather and suede. They are complemented by red contrast stitching, and there appear to be carbon-fiber inserts on the center console. Among other things, a digital instrument panel and a multimedia system with a 9.8-inch screen are expected. Aluminum pedals, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging and a premium Mark Levinson audio system with 17 speakers are also likely.

Engine, transmission and dynamics

Although the new version is primarily focused on weight reduction, it is still unknown whether it will receive a power increase. If Lexus does not touch the powertrain, a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine with 300 hp (224 kW, or 304 PS) and 400 Nm of torque will remain under the hood. The prototype has an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the standard model is also offered with a six-speed manual, so it would be strange if the more powerful version did not have such an option. All-wheel drive also looks mandatory, and acceleration to 100 km/h will likely be faster than 5.2 seconds.

What the appearance of such a prototype could mean

If Lexus really brings this version to production, the LBX Morizo RR will get a clearer positioning as a compact crossover with a sharp character. Lightweight body elements, carbon accents and a sporty interior should not only visually distinguish the car but also reduce weight and improve the feeling of handling. However, the most interesting question is how far Lexus will go with chassis and engine tuning. Competition among fast compact crossovers is growing, so even a small power increase or a more aggressive suspension could make the model more noticeable. For now, the prototype shows that the brand is experimenting with weight reduction and aerodynamics, and the final configuration will become known closer to the premiere.
