50-Year-Old Toyota Celica with V12 Engine and a Feature That Will Impress M2 and Supra Owners

V12 in an Old Body: Unusual Toyota Celica Tuning

The Attacking The Clock Racing team has breathed new life into a classic 1976 Toyota Celica by installing a V12 engine from a Toyota Century under the hood. This project impresses not only with its power but also with technical solutions such as center-lock wheels, custom-made air ducts, and an air suspension system.

Initially, plans were to use a V10 from a Lexus LFA, but due to difficulties in sourcing one, the 12-cylinder unit was chosen. The engine has been modified to produce 700 hp with a redline of 10,000 rpm. A special feature became the 8-speed ZF8HP automatic transmission with an additional clutch pedal, allowing the car to be driven like a manual.

Details and Style

The exterior combines British racing green with a leather interior in beige tones, carbon fiber elements, and retro BBS wheels. The rear suspension has been redesigned into a pushrod system, which is visible through the parcel shelf in the trunk.

Sean Bassett, founder of ATC: “We wanted to preserve the spirit of the original but add modern technology where it makes sense. For example, the clutch pedal for the automatic is a combination of nostalgia and engineering creativity.”

The project debuted at SEMA 2024 but is only now receiving widespread coverage. This work demonstrates how carefully selected details can turn a retro car into a unique tweed between classic and modern trends. It is worth noting that the factory version of the new Celica, which is being prepared for release, will only get a 4-cylinder turbo engine – against the backdrop of such custom projects, this looks like a conservative decision.
