Acura Discontinues ZDX Model After Significant Discounts Fail to Boost Its Popularity

Official Confirmation

It has been officially confirmed that Acura’s first fully electric SUV has ceased to exist. The brand decided to skip the 2025 model year after completing a joint project with General Motors at the end of 2023. The Japanese manufacturer has now confirmed that the ZDX model will indeed not return to the market.

“To better align our product portfolio with the needs of our customers and market conditions, as well as with our long-term strategic goals, we can confirm that production of the Acura ZDX has been discontinued,” an Acura representative stated.

Future Plans and Customer Support

Acura emphasized that, despite the discontinuation of the ZDX, this model was important for the brand. A company representative noted that the ZDX played a valuable role and will lay the foundation for future developments. The arrival of a fully electric Acura RSX is expected next year, with production planned for the second half of 2026 at the EV Hub in Ohio. Additionally, the company is developing hybrid models. Acura ZDX owners will continue to receive full support through the dealer network, including service, parts, and warranty maintenance.

Platform and Market Fate of the Model

The ZDX was built on GM’s Ultium platform and shared its design with the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and Honda Prologue. However, the model never gained popularity. Discounts on the vehicle sometimes reached $30,000 off the recommended price, after which Acura entirely skipped the 2025 model year. Thus, the news of the production halt is not a surprise.

This story is still developing.

The discontinuation of the ZDX highlights the challenges traditional automakers face during the transition to electric vehicles. Collaborative projects, such as the Acura and GM partnership, can provide a technological foundation, but market success depends on many factors, including pricing policy and customer needs. Acura’s future electric and hybrid models will likely incorporate the experience gained from the ZDX to better meet buyer expectations.
