Alonso found an extremely expensive way to forget Aston Martin’s disastrous season

Fernando Alonso bought a unique Pagani Zonda Diamante Verde

Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso may have decided to distract himself from Aston Martin’s poor performances this season by spending millions of dollars on one of the most impressive Pagani Zonda examples ever created. The model in question is the unique Diamante Verde.

The Spaniard received his order a few weeks ago in Monaco, where he owns property and spends part of the year. This car had been in the inventory of the German company Mechatronik since at least 2024, waiting for its wealthy buyer.

Cost and uniqueness of the model

The official price of the car was never disclosed, and Mechatronik does not reveal exactly how much Alonso paid. However, it is known that similar unique models of the Zonda 760 series sell for over $10 million. Considering that Alonso earns approximately $20 million per year driving for Aston Martin, this Pagani could have cost him just over half a year’s salary.

Alonso joins Hamilton

Fernando Alonso is not the only Formula 1 driver to have owned a Zonda. Another famous racer, Lewis Hamilton, ordered a unique Zonda 760LH over ten years ago. At that time, it was only the second model of the 760 series built by Pagani. After about seven years of ownership, Hamilton sold the car at the end of 2021.

Design features and technical specifications

Unlike the 760LH, the Zonda Diamante Verde is a roadster with a fully exposed carbon fiber body. The uniqueness of this car lies in the green metallic flakes added to the carbon fiber, which was not present on any other Zonda with exposed carbon. Additionally, the car has several green accents, including on the front bumper, wheel arches, and rear wing endplates.

Compared to a Formula 1 car, which Alonso is used to, his new Zonda has twice as many cylinders and nearly five times the engine displacement, thanks to a 7.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 from AMG.

This purchase once again underscores how valuable unique Pagani Zonda models are among collectors and celebrities. Despite the Zonda model being long out of production, demand for exclusive versions from independent workshops remains extremely high. For Alonso, who is going through a less-than-ideal period in his career due to Aston Martin’s troubles, this car could be not only an investment but also a way to enjoy driving a true engineering masterpiece. Interestingly, both Formula 1 drivers who have owned a Zonda chose unique configurations, making these cars even more special in the brand’s history.
