Alpine and Lacoste created a unique electric car A290 Rallye
Two of the most famous French brands, Alpine and Lacoste, have joined forces to create a clothing line and a unique version of the electric hatchback A290 Rallye. Although this concept is unlikely to go into series production, we would very much like to see it on the assembly line.
The full name of this project is “Beware of the Crocodile – Alpine Lacoste A290 Rallye”. The car’s color scheme is inspired by the bright red tongue of the crocodile from the Lacoste logo. The exterior is predominantly white, with red accents, while the interior, on the contrary, is almost entirely done in red tones.
External changes and details
Key changes include widened wheel arches, an updated front bumper with red accents on the covered headlights and daytime running lights, and a large amount of forged carbon fiber. The hatchback also received classic rally wheels in white, inspired by aerodynamic discs. Like the standard A290 Rallye version, it has a roof air intake.
The most impressive part is the rear of the car. The rear window is missing, and in its place is a large red crocodile head, which seems to be partially submerged in red water. In reality, it is just a red-painted ducktail spoiler.
Impressive interior
Alpine and Lacoste have completely transformed the interior of the electric car. Hundreds of small crocodiles are scattered across the entire dashboard, while the signature red Lacoste petit piqué fabric adorns the racing seats and door panels. The intricate embroidery was done by the same company that produces the embroidered crocodiles on Lacoste polo shirts. 3D printing was also used to reduce excess weight of the seats.
In addition to the collaboration on this special A290, Lacoste ambassador Pierre Niney and Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly became the stars of a short promotional video released to promote the partnership. Furthermore, the French brands are launching a collection of polo shirts, t-shirts, accessories, and other items.
This project demonstrates how two iconic French brands can combine their DNA — Alpine’s sporting spirit and Lacoste’s elegance — in a truly unique car. Although the concept will likely remain a one-off example, it is a striking example of a creative approach to design and marketing in the automotive industry. Such collaboration not only draws attention to both brands but also shows that electric cars can be not just technological, but also true works of art that evoke emotion and admiration.
