New player on the market: Bovensiepen introduced the 05 GT based on the BMW 5-Series Touring
After a loud debut last year with the Zagato coupe based on the M4, Bovensiepen has introduced its second model. The new station wagon, named 05 GT, is based on the BMW 5-Series Touring. It has undergone a comprehensive transformation and gained incredible power.
Why is the 05 GT so similar to Alpina?
If you are wondering why the 05 GT so strongly resembles Alpina products, there is a good reason. Bovensiepen was created by the family that also founded Alpina. As a reminder, Alpina was fully acquired by BMW in 2022 and now produces new products. To create the 05 GT, the company enlisted legendary car designer Frank Stephenson. The result is a restrained exterior that still distinguishes the model from the regular 5-Series. Essentially, it is the successor to the old Alpina B5.
Exterior changes and details
Up front, there is a completely new bumper with a sportier shape and a new radiator grille mesh with a large Bovensiepen logo. The car features 21-inch forged wheels with 20 spokes, shod in Pirelli tires created specifically for this model.
The changes continue along the sides with new side skirts, and at the rear — a unique roof spoiler, an updated bumper, and dual exhaust tips. Overall, the car looks like a typical Alpina product, except for the different badging. Despite how Alpina might feel about this, additional competition in the BMW tuning segment can only be beneficial.
Impressive hybrid power
The most impressive feature of the 05 GT is its powertrain. Despite its restrained appearance, it uses the same hybrid 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 as the M5. In standard trim, this setup produces 718 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. Thanks to a new air intake, a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, and software changes, Bovensiepen managed to extract 790 hp and 1100 Nm.
This luxurious station wagon can accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds, and the top speed reaches 305 km/h. Its curb weight is 2555 kg, just 5 kg more than the M5 Touring. Other performance-oriented changes include upgraded suspension with new Eibach springs, modified strut bearings, and a strut tower brace.
Interior and sales launch
The interior is also noteworthy. The German firm has reupholstered the seats with new Lavalina leather, sourced from selected farms in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. The steering wheel has also received new trim in luxurious leather. As expected from such a car, buyers will be able to choose from a multitude of different leather colors to create their dream car.
Bovensiepen plans to begin deliveries of the 05 GT in the fourth quarter of this year. Prices start at 198,900 euros (approximately $230,700 USD).
This debut marks an interesting turn in the history of BMW tuning. The founders of Alpina, which is now part of BMW, are creating their own company that offers even more extreme versions of Bavarian models. The 05 GT looks like a worthy successor to the B5, combining restrained style with power that surpasses even the factory M5. This could create a new niche in the market where buyers will have a choice between official BMW M products, Alpina products (which are now part of BMW), and independent offerings from Bovensiepen. Given the price, this car will compete not only with the M5 Touring but also with other luxurious high-performance station wagons such as the Audi RS6 Avant, offering a unique combination of exclusivity, power, and family practicality.
