Why the US Army Plans to Destroy Two State-of-the-Art Cybertrucks

US Air Force Tests Cybertruck as a Target

The US Air Force has ordered two Tesla Cybertruck electric cars to use as targets for missile tests. The military explains that this vehicle has unique characteristics that distinguish it from other vehicles. In particular, its stainless-steel body and 48-volt electrical system could affect the results of being hit by ammunition.

According to army representatives, the adversary in future conflicts may use the Cybertruck in combat conditions, so it is necessary to understand how effective modern missiles are against this type of vehicle. The tests are planned to be conducted at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

Why Specifically the Cybertruck?

A military document states:

“In the combat zone, the likelihood of the adversary using the Tesla Cybertruck is increasing, as these vehicles demonstrate unusual resilience to damage from severe impacts.”

Although specific countries are not named, there have already been attempts to use the Cybertruck for military purposes last year. For example, one was modified by installing a machine gun in the truck bed, and its use in combat was discussed.

Interestingly, besides the USA, the Cybertruck is also being supplied to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, which could create additional security risks. The military wants to be prepared for any scenarios, so testing is a logical step. At the same time, this raises questions about how technologies developed for the civilian market can change the nature of modern conflicts.
