The Cupra brand has officially announced that the full presentation of the new Raval electric hatchback will take place on April 9. Ahead of the debut, the company has released a teaser image that provides a clear idea of the design of the rear end of the brand’s smallest electric car.
Bold Light Signatures and Sporty Character
The published shot shows the car’s rear reflected in water, creating a dramatic effect. The most striking detail is the light signature: triple LED elements in the shape of triangles are placed at the corners, connected by a solid light strip with a textured, mesh-like pattern. In the center is the illuminated Cupra logo, similar to the one that appeared on the updated Born.
The image also reveals a roof spoiler on the tailgate and a set of black and bronze alloy wheels with Bridgestone tires. These details point to a sportier character compared to conventional small electric cars and likely identify the version shown as the hot VZ hatchback.
Technical Base and Chassis Tuning
The Cupra Raval will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s new front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform. Its length is just over 4 meters, placing the model in the subcompact class. The car will share its technical base with the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo and Skoda Epiq, with Cupra reportedly being responsible for chassis development.
Engineers lowered the ride height by approximately 15 mm compared to equivalent Volkswagen and Skoda models, even in base trims, made the suspension stiffer, and added progressive steering to provide more engaging driving sensations. The Raval is positioned as the enthusiast’s car in this trio.
Power Range and Batteries
Initially, the model will offer two base versions: with 114 hp or 133 hp, both paired with a 38.5 kWh battery. The more powerful mid-range version will get a single front electric motor with about 208 hp and a 55 kWh battery.
This configuration is expected to provide acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 7.2 seconds and a WLTP range of up to 450 kilometers, representing a solid balance of performance and efficiency for daily use.
Hot VZ Version
The VZ version, which is Cupra’s electric equivalent of the Volkswagen Polo GTI, attracts particular attention. This modification promises even greater dynamics thanks to 233 hp, an electronic differential, and a wider track. This performance is expected to be offset by a slightly shorter range of around 400 kilometers.
The estimated starting price in Europe is around €26,000. With its bold, youthful design and focus on handling, the Cupra Raval has every chance to bring new emotions to the segment of affordable electric cars.
The arrival of the Raval indicates Cupra’s clear strategy for differentiation within the Volkswagen Group: even on a shared platform, the brand bets on more aggressive design, sportier road behavior, and a direct appeal to an audience that values driving sensations. This could become a decisive factor in the competitive battle, where many affordable electric cars are often criticized for being too calm. The success of this model could also influence the further development of electric hot hatchbacks in general, demonstrating that sustainability and passion can go hand in hand.
