This Wedge-Shaped Electric Car Is the Strangest Off-Roader You’ll See This Year

The new electric crossover from the Saudi brand Ceer, which has not yet been officially unveiled, was spotted during road tests. The car promises to be very unusual.

Unique Design and Features

Unlike many crossovers, whose designs are often similar and predictable, the Ceer model looks truly unique. The car has a wedge shape and is equipped with an extremely large windshield. The manufacturer has already announced that this glass will be the largest in the world among mass-produced cars. It is supplied by the company Isoclima.

Although exact dimensions are not specified, it is known that the glass will have a special Infrared Reflective Triple Silver coating to minimize solar heat absorption, which is critically important for the Middle East region. Furthermore, it will have an acoustic layer to improve sound insulation and a tinted band at the top as additional sun protection.

Exterior Details

In addition to the massive glass, spy photos reveal triangular-shaped wheels, as well as doors resembling “butterfly wings” or gullwings, with glass inserts. The car also has thick side sills, black plastic body cladding, narrow LED lights, and likely digital rearview mirrors. The rear of the body is very angular, with an unusual tailgate shape and a special recess for the license plate.

About the Brand and Technical Agreements

The Ceer brand was founded in 2022 on the initiative of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with investments from the state Public Investment Fund. The goal is to design, manufacture, and sell cars, including sedans and SUVs, for the markets of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Ceer is a joint venture with the Taiwanese company Foxconn, which is responsible for developing the vehicles’ electric architecture. Initially, it was planned that the first cars would appear in 2025, and component technologies would be licensed from BMW; however, these timelines have changed.

Production and Partnerships

The company is currently building a plant in King Abdullah Economic City. To equip its vehicles, Ceer has entered into important technical agreements. Last year, a partnership with Hyundai was announced, under which the Korean company will supply electric powertrains that combine the motor, inverter, and reducer.

Furthermore, Ceer recently announced a separate agreement with Rimac Technologies for the supply of high-performance powertrain systems, although the details of this agreement have not yet been disclosed.

The emergence of such an ambitious project as Ceer on the global electric vehicle market indicates growing competition and diversity. The emphasis on cutting-edge design and partnerships with renowned technology companies could be the key to success in the regional market, where consumers are increasingly interested in innovation. The success of this project could also significantly impact the diversification of Saudi Arabia’s economy, traditionally dependent on oil, opening new avenues for the country’s industrial development.
