Ford Maverick Transforms into an Urban Pickup with Mustang Genes That You Can Actually Buy

Popular Pickup Gets More Power

The Ford Maverick is the most popular compact pickup in the USA, but many owners and potential buyers have long wanted more power under the hood. Last year’s Maverick Lobo version did not provide additional power, but Ford has now confirmed a future tuning kit for certain trims, created using parts borrowed from the Mustang.

The new kit was introduced via the Maverick 300T project vehicle, which will head to the SEMA show before becoming available to customers in 2026. Ford notes that the idea arose “during conversations with Maverick customers, as well as during late-night browsing of Reddit and the Ford Maverick Truck Club forum.”

What’s Under the Hood?

Under the hood of the 300T lies an upgraded 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, now equipped with a larger turbo from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost Mustang. This system is expected to deliver about 300 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, while remaining fully CARB-certified for all fifty states.

This is a significant increase compared to the standard gasoline Maverick, which produces 238 hp and 373 Nm.

The new turbo kit features a 59 mm diameter compressor wheel (instead of 53 mm) and a 58.8% larger Mishimoto intercooler. Matthew Simpson, Ford Executive Director of Accessories and Personalization, notes that the intercooler “provides a 39.6% temperature reduction and a 20.1% reduction in pressure drop compared to the standard unit.”

Suspension Refinements

The 300T is not just about the engine. Ford developed the kit as a complete performance upgrade, revising the suspension with lowering springs, monotube rear shocks, and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar from the Maverick Lobo.

These changes lower the pickup by 10 mm at the front and 30 mm at the rear. The Borla Sport exhaust system with dual exhaust tips gives it a sharper sound that matches its styling.

Visually, the 300T stands out thanks to 20-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the all-electric Mustang Mach-E GT, available in black or bronze. Ford will fit them with Pirelli P Zero Elect tires, although the SEMA show vehicle rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

What Else Distinguishes This Model?

The exterior is finished with 300T color decals, lettering on the Maverick’s rear doors, fender vents, and Ford Performance badges. A slightly redesigned front spoiler from Air Design hints at the larger intercooler located behind it.

All updates are compatible with Maverick XL, XLT, and Lariat trims equipped with the 2.0-liter engine and all-wheel drive. Ford also recommends adding the optional 4K towing package, which improves transmission and driveline cooling.

The Maverick 300T prototype will be showcased at the Ford Performance Parts booth at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. The kit is expected to become available as a performance upgrade in 2026. The price will be announced later.

According to Ford, the 300T project is “just the beginning,” as new custom builds are already being prepared at Ford Custom Garage.

Ford Maverick Becomes A Street Truck With Mustang DNA You Can Actually Buy

This move by Ford demonstrates the growing demand for more powerful and personalized versions of compact pickups. Integrating technologies from the Mustang into an affordable model could significantly expand the brand’s audience, combining practicality with driving emotion. Similar updates are expected to become a trend among manufacturers seeking to meet the needs of enthusiasts without the need to buy more expensive sports cars.
