The updated version of the Ford Edge L has appeared in China. The SUV has received design updates focused on the front and rear ends. It will remain available with internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrains.
Although the Ford Edge disappeared from North American showrooms in 2024, on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, the name continues to exist. In China, the model is sold as the Edge L, produced locally through the Changan-Ford joint venture. Three years after its debut, the SUV is preparing for a scheduled update.
A filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has revealed changes, including style updates and full technical specifications, ahead of an official launch expected in the coming months.
Exterior Changes and Design
Typical for a scheduled update, the side body panels remain unchanged, with work focused on the front and rear ends. A more rectangular radiator grille with a new pattern now dominates the front, better concealing the LED headlights behind it. Vertical air intakes frame the lower bumper, and a brushed aluminum skid plate is located in the splitter.

At the rear, the Edge L features redesigned tailgate doors with a thinner trim piece for the taillight housings, although the LED patterns seem to remain the same. Additionally, the license plate has moved to the rear bumper, along with a revised diffuser and relocated reflectors.
Options and Interior
Among the additional options listed are various wheel designs from 19 to 21 inches, body-colored or black trim, as well as two-tone paint. Interestingly, the filings do not include the ST-Line version, which is part of the current lineup with sportier body cladding and different alloy wheels.

Although there are no interior photos, the SUV will likely retain three-row seating for six or seven passengers. Features of the previous model include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 27-inch infotainment display, second-row captain’s chairs with reclining adjustment and built-in footrests, as well as a panoramic sunroof.
Powertrains and Market
Under the hood, the Ford Edge L will continue to offer internal combustion engine and self-charging hybrid options. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 249 hp (185 kW / 252 PS), while the hybrid version offers a combined output of 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS). Curb weight varies: the gasoline model weighs 1,949 kg, and the hybrid weighs 2,113 kg.
The market launch of the updated Edge L in China is expected later this year, with production handled by Changan Ford. The current model starts at ¥229,800 ($33,800), positioned above the Equator Sport and Equator, but below the Explorer in the local lineup. Since last year, the Edge L has also been exported to Mexico.

This update demonstrates Ford’s strategy of adapting its model lineup to different markets. While the Edge has given way to other models in North America, it is getting a second wind in China. This allows the company to efficiently utilize existing platforms and production capacity while meeting demand for three-row SUVs in a region where such vehicles remain popular. Exports to Mexico also indicate that Ford sees potential for this model in other developing markets where price and practicality are crucial.
