Hyundai Ioniq 9 Calligraphy for $75,000 Gets a Sibling That Makes It Look Cheap

Hyundai has unveiled a new flagship electric crossover

Hyundai has officially presented the 2027 Ioniq 9 Performance Calligraphy Black Ink model, which they call the “most luxurious electric SUV” in their lineup. This vehicle has received not only a long name but also an impressive list of features.

Design and Exterior

The new version is created for buyers who seek “maximum luxury, exclusive design, and the highest performance.” It fully follows the “blackout” trend: the vehicle gets a black chrome front trim, black emblems, and black window surrounds. This is complemented by glossy black roof rails and exclusive 21-inch wheels with a turbine design. If that’s not enough, the crossover can be ordered in Abyss Black Pearl color.

Interior and Features

The dark theme continues inside: the cabin is trimmed in black H-Tex material with aluminum inserts of the same color. The vehicle has a six-seat layout with “relaxation seats” in the first and second rows, which feature power adjustment, heating, and ventilation. The third row also has heating.

Other features include a suede eco-headliner, a digital rearview mirror, and a panoramic glass roof. The audio system is represented by 14 premium Bose speakers, and a 10-inch head-up display is also installed.

The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless smartphone charging. Heated steering wheel and power tailgate are also provided.

Technical Specifications and Range

The vehicle is equipped with a 110.3 kWh battery pack powering a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. The total output is 422 hp (315 kW / 428 hp) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque. The claimed driving range is approximately 311 miles (501 km) on a single charge. Thanks to support for 350 kW fast charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.

Price and Sales Start

The 2027 Ioniq 9 Performance Calligraphy Black Ink model will arrive at dealerships this summer. The price will be announced closer to the start of sales, but it is expected to be higher than the 2026 Ioniq 9 Calligraphy version, which starts at $74,990 excluding the $1,600 delivery fee.

This move by Hyundai demonstrates a clear ambition to establish itself in the premium electric crossover segment, where competition from giants such as the Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and BMW iX is extremely high. By betting on maximum blacked-out styling and luxury, the company is trying to create a unique niche for its flagship. It is worth noting that the technical specifications, including power and range, while competitive, do not set new records in the class. The main advantage seems to be the exclusive design and level of equipment, which should justify the high price.
