Kia recalls over 82 thousand K5 sedans due to a lighting issue
Kia has announced the recall of 82,281 K5 sedans from the 2025 model year due to a software error affecting the operation of the lighting system. According to the report, when the driver activates the turn signal, the parking light may not remain on. This reduces the vehicle’s visibility on the road and violates federal safety standards.
The issue arose because the software for the PDC controller accidentally incorporated the turn signal logic designed for the Korean market. Kia learned about this on May 13 and soon initiated an investigation. As reported, owners will be able to receive the software update remotely or through official dealerships.
“When the turn signal is activated along with the headlights or parking lights, the corresponding parking light does not remain on”
Although the main lights continue to function, the absence of the parking light may increase the risk of accidents. The manufacturer plans to start sending notifications to owners next month. This situation highlights how crucial software updates have become in modern vehicles—even a minor error can lead to large-scale recalls. At the same time, the ability to fix the issue “over the air” significantly reduces the time and resources needed for resolution.
