Buick Flagship Sedan Concept Resembles a Citroen DS from the Future

Buick Unveils Radical EV Concept for China

Buick has revealed its new Electra Orbit concept car—a luxury electric vehicle that is radically different from the brand’s familiar SUVs and crossovers. However, there are two important nuances: for now, it is only a concept, and it is intended exclusively for the Chinese market.

The design of the Electra Orbit is reminiscent of classic models from the 1950s, particularly the Citroën DS, but with modern technology. The long wheelbase and sleek lines make it resemble a GT coupe, although it is a four-door sedan. The six LED headlights, illuminated logo, and four scissor doors are particularly eye-catching.

The Chinese Market as a Priority

China remains a key market for Buick, so the company is actively developing its Electra EV lineup there. The new concept is meant to emphasize the brand’s status as a serious player in the premium car segment.

Recently, Buick launched the more traditional Electra E5 model in China, which is offered as a hybrid, but a fully electric version is also expected to appear.

Technology and Interior

The Electra Orbit’s interior features four individual seats, a full-width digital dashboard across the windshield, and a holographic display. Although technical details have not yet been disclosed, production models are expected to incorporate many elements from this concept.

Chinese buyers, who often prefer chauffeur-driven travel, will appreciate the space and comfort. However, experimental solutions like the unusually shaped doors are unlikely to make it to mass production.

Buick continues to experiment with design and technology, trying to establish itself in the premium segment. The Electra Orbit is not just a concept but a demonstration of how the brand sees its future in its largest market. Meanwhile, in the US, Buick remains focused on more conservative models, indicating different strategies for different regions.
