Chinese family crossover Xiaomi with 990 horsepower priced even cheaper than the base Macan EV outperforms the Turbo version

Xiaomi presented the flagship crossover YU7 GT at the Beijing Auto Show

As expected, Xiaomi presented the flagship version of its YU7 crossover, known as the GT, at the Beijing Auto Show. It is not as extreme as the SU7 Ultra, but it was partially developed at the Nürburgring and received a number of improvements over the younger versions.

More aggressive design and exclusive details

As shown by the editorial staff’s own spy shots earlier this month, the YU7 GT looks much more aggressive than the standard version. For example, it has wider wheel arches and a significantly more menacing front end with a new darkened radiator grille and unique air intakes. On the hood sits a special badge made of carbon fiber and 24-karat gold.

Xiaomi Brings Its 1,000HP YU7 GT To Porsche’s Backyard Naked And Unafraid

Xiaomi will offer the YU7 GT with 21- and 22-inch wheels and has also upgraded the braking system. Other stylistic and aerodynamic changes are visible at the rear, including a dramatic diffuser and a small spoiler on the tailgate.

Impressive powertrain

While the YU7 GT may resemble the Ferrari Purosangue, the most interesting part happens under the hood. Xiaomi equipped the YU7 GT with a new front motor producing 386 hp and a new rear motor producing 604 hp, for a total of 990 hp.

While this is significantly less than the 1527 hp in the SU7 Ultra, it is still an incredible amount of power for a family SUV, easily surpassing such EVs as the flagship Porsche Macan Turbo Electric with its 630 hp.

Not just power

Xiaomi has not yet released the full technical specifications of the GT, including its lap time at the Nürburgring. It is known that it will be able to reach a top speed of 300 km/h, and it can be assumed that the 0 to 100 km/h sprint will take approximately 2 seconds.

In addition to the motor upgrades, Xiaomi installed a new air suspension, a rear-axle torque vectoring system, and made changes to the traction control system. Buyers who wish to use the YU7 GT on the track will be able to order optional carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo.

Price and prospects

Prices have not been confirmed yet, but the model is expected to cost between 450,000 yuan ($65,800) and 500,000 yuan ($73,100). Xiaomi hopes this version will help revive interest in the YU7 model, sales of which have fallen from a peak of nearly 40,000 units in December to less than 15,000 in March.

It is worth noting that the YU7 GT is another step for Xiaomi in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. The company, initially associated exclusively with electronics, is demonstrating serious ambitions in the automotive industry, challenging established players like Porsche. The decline in sales of the standard YU7 version indicates high competition in the Chinese market, where consumers have a wide choice. The release of the powerful and technologically advanced GT version could be a way to not only attract attention to the model but also strengthen the brand’s image as a manufacturer of premium and innovative cars.
