Major Range Rover Recall Due to Suspension Problems
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced a recall of 121,509 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles due to a potential fault in the suspension components. According to the report, the front struts may crack, which could subsequently lead to the detachment of the suspension arms. The issue concerns models manufactured between 2014 and 2017.
The suspension strut, or so-called “knuckle,” is a critical component that connects the steering and suspension arms to the wheel. Its failure in a heavy SUV can lead to serious accidents. JLR stated that there have been no recorded accidents or injuries due to this fault so far but is taking preventive measures.
Owners of the affected vehicles should contact a dealer for an inspection of the front struts. If no cracks are found, additional brackets will be installed. In case of damage or absence of brackets, the strut will be replaced entirely.
The Problem Is Not New
This is not the first time JLR has faced a similar problem. In 2022, the company already recalled vehicles in Canada and the UK due to strut corrosion caused by winter road treatment with salt. The parts manufacturer – SuperAlloy Industrial – was also involved in previous incidents.
In July 2023, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation into steering strut defects in the Range Rover Sport after receiving a number of complaints from owners. This indicates that the problem is systemic and requires attention from the manufacturer.
Given the scale of the recall and its global nature, it can be concluded that JLR is trying to prevent potentially dangerous situations. However, the fact that such incidents are recurring indicates the need for more thorough quality control at the manufacturing and parts supply stage. For owners of the affected models, it is important not to ignore notifications from the manufacturer and to contact official service centers in a timely manner.
