Legendary V6 in museum quality found where Acura never sold a single car

At an auction in the Netherlands, a unique car has appeared — a first-generation Acura Legend sedan from 1989 with only 30,000 miles (about 48,000 km) on the odometer. This car is a true rarity, especially in Europe, where the Acura brand was never officially sold.

Unique find in Europe

Encountering a first-generation Acura Legend in such excellent condition is a great rarity. But finding such a car in Europe is almost impossible. Honda did not sell its premium brand Acura in Europe, instead offering the Legend with an “H” emblem on the radiator grille. This white sedan was imported from the USA to the Netherlands, where it is now being put up for auction.

Excellent condition and original details

The car is in surprisingly good condition. It has no traces of rust, which often affected Japanese cars of that period. According to the description of the Hoog Selections auction, the body is covered with almost original paint in Cream White. The interior with beige fabric upholstery also looks fresh, and there are no cracks on the dashboard.

The car retains its original Acura audio system with a built-in graphic equalizer. It also features a function rare for European cars of that time — a driver’s airbag.

Technical specifications and connection with Britain

Under the hood is a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine. Although the description indicates a displacement of 3.2 liters, it is likely a 2.7-liter engine, since the 3.2-liter appeared only with the second generation of the Legend in 1990. The power of the 2.7-liter engine is 160 hp (162 hp) and 220 Nm of torque, which is transmitted to the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Interestingly, the same engine was used in the Rover 800 sedan, which was the British “twin” of the Legend. Rover even sold the 800 model in the USA under the Sterling brand, but due to reliability issues, the brand was forced to leave the American market in 1991.

Collector value

Japanese classic cars from the 80s and 90s continue to attract the attention of collectors, and such well-preserved specimens are becoming a true rarity. This Acura Legend may not attract as much attention as the NSX, and as a sedan it is not as flashy as the Legend coupe, but its understated luxury and unusual transcontinental history make it an interesting exhibit for European Honda enthusiasts, as well as possibly for American collectors who might want to bring it back home.

This car is not just a rare exhibit, but also a testament to the globalization of the automotive industry in the late 80s. Its history, combining Japanese manufacturing, the American market, British technology, and European residence, makes it a unique artifact. For collectors who value originality and low mileage, this Legend is a true find, offering not only nostalgia but also a potentially profitable investment in the growing market for Japanese classics.
