Mercedes-Benz makes strategic investments in Georgia to develop new projects

Mercedes increases investments in Georgia

Mercedes-Benz has announced the establishment of a new research and development (R&D) center near Atlanta, as well as the relocation of 500 jobs to the state of Georgia. These steps are intended to make the company more agile and accelerate the launch of new products to the market.

The new R&D center will be part of a large-scale investment project located near Mercedes’ U.S. headquarters. By August 2026, the company plans to relocate financial, corporate, and technical teams from various regions of the country, including Farmington Hills in Michigan.

“Bringing teams together will allow us to be more nimble, speed up time-to-market, and ensure the best experience for customers,” said Mercedes-Benz North America CEO Jason Hoff.

Government response and prospects

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp praised the company’s decision, emphasizing that the state continues to lead in the field of future mobility. Mercedes, in turn, expects to collaborate with local technology institutions, particularly the Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as startups.

The U.S. remains a key market for the brand—last year, over 374,000 vehicles were sold here. Most of them are produced at the plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where an additional model was recently announced for the lineup.

These changes are taking place against the backdrop of active development in Georgia’s automotive industry. For example, Hyundai has already begun production at its new plant, and Rivian resumed construction after receiving support from the Biden administration. For Mercedes, this is a strategic move aimed at strengthening its position in the American market.
