Mercedes presented the updated GLB, but currently it is only available in an electric version

New Mercedes-Benz GLB: Electric replacement for the EQB with a large battery and technologies

The updated Mercedes-Benz GLB has been presented, which, while retaining its characteristic square shape, has received numerous innovations. This model, available in 5- and 7-seat configurations, essentially becomes the successor to the fully electric EQB. Initially, the car will come to the market exclusively as an electric vehicle, with hybrid versions appearing later.

The company has already announced two key modifications:

Mercedes notes that a cheaper, entry-level electric model will be added to the lineup next year. Then a hybrid version with 48-volt technology will be launched, available in three power levels with front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

Updated design and tech-saturated interior

The exterior of the new GLB develops the brand’s signature style. The car received a massive radiator grille, new optics with star-shaped daytime running lights, and a light strip. Perhaps the most interesting angle is the rear with vertical taillights united by a light panel, which may have been inspired by the Vision EQXX concept car.

The real step into the future is the interior. The Mercedes Superscreen system is available as an option, combining three displays: a 10.25-inch one for the driver and two 14-inch ones for multimedia and the passenger. The instrument panel is almost completely flat, aligning with modern minimalist trends.

Artificial intelligence in driver service

The infotainment system runs on the fourth-generation MBUX platform, which integrates artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google. The system is built on the Unity game engine and includes the MBUX virtual assistant, based on ChatGPT4o.

Clearly, Mercedes was keen to make the GLB as technologically oriented as possible.

Currently, only starting prices for Germany are known. The base model GLB 250+ with EQ technology will start from 59,048 euros, while the GLB 350 4Matic with EQ technology will start from 62,178 euros.

The appearance of the new GLB clearly demonstrates Mercedes-Benz’s strategy for electrifying its lineup of compact crossovers. The model not only received a modern powertrain with a long range but also became a carrier of advanced digital technologies that were previously the prerogative of flagship series. This could significantly increase its competitiveness in the market, especially among buyers who value technological advancement and practicality. The success of this model could determine the further development of the brand’s electric compact models.
