American company Légende Automobiles presented an interesting project – tuning a 1980 Renault 5. The small urban hatchback has been turned into a powerful and fast hot rod.

Légende Automobiles director Alain Derosier (who, by the way, helped design the new Gemballa supercar) decided to create a modern variation on the theme of the famous mid-engine Renault 5 Turbo hot hatch. Following its example, the engine also moved to the back.

The engine is modern – a 400-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. This is enough to turn a car weighing less than a ton into a rocket. For reference, the original Renault 5 Turbo had only 160-185 horsepower. Additionally, a sequential gearbox was installed and the suspension and brakes were completely replaced.

The only thing left from the original is the body frame, as almost all the body panels are now carbon, and the optics are modern LED. The interior is trimmed with Alcantara, with a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a virtual dashboard installed. There are also sports seats, dual-zone climate control, and a safety cage.
