Miniature Land Cruiser FJ Appears at the Price of a Flagship Corolla Cross, and It Didn’t Arrive Alone

Official Debut at the Production Site

Five months after its global premiere, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ officially debuted in Thailand, precisely where it is produced. This launch also served as a showcase moment, as Toyota used the opportunity to demonstrate how important this compact SUV is to the entire Land Cruiser lineup. Supporting this idea are four concepts and a wide range of accessories that set the tone.

Four Concepts for Different Lifestyles

These concepts are named Meridian, Nature Explorer, Legendary, and Street Cruiser. Each is created to demonstrate the customization potential of the new body-on-frame SUV, focusing on off-road versatility, overlanding, vintage looks, and sportiness.

All four models include a mix of Toyota accessories and components from third-party manufacturers such as ARB, Old Man Emu, Lenso, Brembo, and Yokohama.

Meridian – The Most Trail-Ready

Standing out with Cement Gray paint and black topographic accents, the Meridian is the most off-road-prepared version in the group. It is equipped with a large amount of ARB gear, including underbody protection, a snorkel, side steps that also serve as rock sliders, roof rails, and an LED light bar.

The concept sits on 17-inch Lenso MX Dinero alloy wheels wrapped in off-road tires. Its ground clearance is increased by 20 mm using a lift kit with Old Man Emu springs and Nitrocharger Plus shock absorbers, adding capability beyond paved roads.

Nature Explorer – A Mobile Base Camp

This version is designed as a mobile base camp for outdoor enthusiasts, finished in a Smokey Blue shade with a white roof. It is equipped with full-length ARB roof rails, a rooftop tent, and a side awning for extended trips.

To improve visibility during night stops, the SUV has ARB spotlights on the grille and Nacho LED lights installed at the base of the windshield. It rides on black Lenso MX Marvel alloy wheels with all-terrain tires and has a set of mud flaps.

Legendary – A Tribute to Heritage

The Legendary concept serves as a tribute to Land Cruiser heritage, clearly drawing inspiration from the classic FJ40. The exterior stands out with Sandstone Yellow paint, body-colored trim, subtle chrome accents along the profile, and black accents on the underbody protection, side steps, and light housings. It is also the only concept with round LED graphic elements, emphasizing its retro character.

Other features include 17-inch Lenso MX Duty alloy wheels reminiscent of chrome steel wheels, all-terrain tires, mud flaps, classic Land Cruiser fender emblems, and larger side mirrors.

Street Cruiser – A Sporty Urban Focus

Sharply contrasting with the other off-road versions, the Street Cruiser has a sportier expression aimed at urban drivers and content creators.

It sits on 20-inch Lenso Jager Astra alloy wheels with road tires, paired with a lowered suspension and an upgraded braking system including ventilated discs and red Brembo calipers. No powertrain updates are reported.

A matte wrap with racing graphics combines with a gloss black roof and a prominent rear spoiler. At the rear, the spare tire is replaced with a stylish case, freeing up space for mounting a motorcycle or bicycle.

Official Accessory Packages

Beyond the show cars, Toyota introduced a range of additional accessories already available to Land Cruiser FJ buyers in Thailand. Each item can be purchased separately, although the company also offers three pre-assembled packages to simplify the process.

The Unbound Explorer package costs 32,450 baht and includes a snorkel, ARB underbody protection, and mud flaps. The Urban Unique package is priced at 32,700 baht and includes grille garnish, a spare tire cover, door moldings, a fuel tank cap, side visors, and front and rear 2K cameras. The Freedom Journey package, priced at 36,400 baht, adds an ARB roof platform.

More options are expected to appear when the Land Cruiser FJ launches in the Japanese market.

Technical Specifications of the Thai Version

The Thai Land Cruiser FJ is built on the IMV body-on-frame architecture and is equipped exclusively with a non-hybrid 2.7-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine producing 164 hp and 245 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system with a lockable rear differential.

The compact Land Cruiser is 4,610 mm long with a 2,580 mm wheelbase. It offers a ground clearance of 245 mm and a wading depth of 700 mm.

Market Price Positioning

Toyota launched the Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand in a single top-spec trim. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch multimedia system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather, seven airbags, and a suite of driver assistance systems.

The starting price is 1,269,000 baht. This positions the FJ slightly above the top Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport and the base Fortuner in the same market, while making it more affordable than higher-spec versions of the new Hilux Travo.

Toyota currently does not offer other Land Cruiser models in Thailand, so its positioning compared to the larger 250 and 300 series will become clearer after its launch in Japan.

The appearance of the Land Cruiser FJ with such a well-thought-out customization strategy already at the launch stage indicates a shift in manufacturers’ approach to compact SUVs. The market increasingly expects not just versatile vehicles, but ready-made platforms for self-expression and adaptation to specific needs, from extreme off-roading to an urban lifestyle. The wide selection of official accessories and collaboration with renowned tuning ateliers allows buyers to get a unique vehicle without losing the warranty, which is a key argument. The success of this model in Asia could significantly influence Toyota’s plans for its global distribution and potential fitting with other powertrains.
