Ford Mustang GTD muscle car used a classic trick to sell patriotism at 202 mph

Updated Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America: Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the USA

Ford has introduced an updated version of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the United States. The previous model honored Craig Breedlove and his jet-powered car, which broke the speed record at 600 mph (966 km/h). The new version, according to the manufacturer, “honors the American ingenuity needed to compete with the world’s best sports cars.”

Of course, this sounds like a marketing move, as the previous model was also advertised as embodying “American ingenuity” and “performance.” The manufacturer couldn’t directly say that the main goal is profit, but the essence remains the same.

Design and Features

The car features a body in Performance White color with blue and red stripes in Lightning Blue and Race Red. The stripe design is asymmetrical: a central blue stripe runs the entire length of the car, while a thin red stripe and a wide blue stripe start from the hood air intakes and end on the rear spoiler.

Among other features are exposed carbon fiber and Forgeline wheels. The model is also equipped with the Performance Package, which includes aerodynamic elements: a large front splitter, “fins,” and a drag reduction system.

Interior and Technical Specifications

The interior remains unchanged: buyers will get a familiar cabin with a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment system. The company also offers optional 3D-printed titanium accents.

Under the hood is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 815 hp (608 kW / 826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (899 Nm) of torque. This allows the car to reach a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).

Availability and Price

North American buyers can apply until May 18, although information on pricing and delivery dates is currently unavailable.

Interestingly, Ford continues to use patriotic themes to promote its models, although technically the new Mustang GTD Spirit of America is almost no different from its predecessor. The main innovation is the asymmetrical stripe design, which adds uniqueness to the car. Given the limited production run and high cost, this model will likely become a collector’s item, but its real value for brand enthusiasts remains questionable, especially considering the lack of significant technical changes.
