Mercedes-AMG opens orders for the electric GT 4-Door Coupe
Mercedes-AMG has officially started taking orders for its new electric super sedan GT 4-Door Coupe with 1,169 horsepower (860 kW). Currently, only European customers have access to this model, and it is thanks to this that prices have become known. If these figures are converted in the same way as before, American buyers should mentally prepare. In Germany, the starting price for the GT 4-Door Coupe is 154,700 euros, which at the current exchange rate equals approximately 176,000 US dollars.
Two versions and prices for the flagship model
It is worth noting that two versions are available at the start of sales. The flagship GT 63 model costs from 196,350 euros (about 224,000 dollars). A few points should be considered. Firstly, this price includes VAT, which, unlike sales tax in the US, is already included in the stated price, so a direct comparison is not entirely accurate. Secondly, this is the price without taking into account additional options that buyers can choose. We will return to these.
Will the price in the US be significantly higher?
AMG models rarely come to America with an attractive price. Although there is no VAT in the US, buyers will still have to pay taxes, account for exchange rates, and shipping costs. Add to this the possibility that Mercedes will simply set a higher price for the American market, and a well-equipped GT 63 could easily cross the quarter-million-dollar mark. The last Mercedes that was this expensive in the US was the SLS AMG Black Series — a limited series with a V8 engine that enthusiasts still admire, even decades later.
Technical specifications and charging speed
Of course, Mercedes offers buyers a significant amount of technical solutions for this money. The GT 63 is equipped with three electric motors: two on the rear axle and one on the front axle, which together provide power up to 1,169 hp (860 kW). According to the company, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 6.4 seconds.
The company also claims the ability to charge at up to 600 kW. Under ideal conditions, this is enough to add over 460 km of range in just ten minutes, and charging from 10% to 80% can take about 11 minutes. In addition to the standard equipment, the GT 4-Door can be equipped with options whose total cost can quickly reach the price of a compact car.
The most expensive options
The most expensive option at launch is the Performance Seat package, which can cost up to 6,116 euros ($6,965). Other expensive options include the AMG Dynamic Plus package with active suspension and track software for 5,295 euros ($6,025). The AMG Driver’s Package increases the top speed to 300 km/h for an additional 5,250 euros ($5,975). If you add all available options, the cost of the car will undoubtedly reach a level previously only typical for V12 supercars.
Expectations for the US market
Mercedes has not yet announced prices for the US. But, judging by what we see in Europe, there is a high probability that American buyers will need significantly deeper pockets than they hoped.

The new electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is becoming not just another electric car, but a real technological breakthrough that challenges traditional notions of performance. Its cost, approaching a quarter of a million dollars, positions it in the same league as the most expensive hybrid and electric supercars. This indicates that AMG is betting not on mass production, but on exclusivity and maximum technological equipment. Impressive speed and charging figures make it one of the fastest production electric cars, but only time will tell if such a price will meet the expectations of even the wealthiest enthusiasts. It will be especially interesting to see how this model is received in the US market, where cars with internal combustion engines traditionally have a strong position.
