The strangest car in Roush’s garage is not a Mustang, but a Pontiac G6

Pontiac G6 by Roush: Unique concept from SEMA 2004 goes up for auction

More than two decades ago, Pontiac was still producing the mid-size G6 sedan. This model remained on the market for about six years before production finally ceased. Most of these cars have long since been sent to the scrapheap of history, but one example is about to appear at auction, and it has its own unique story.

This particular Pontiac G6 was presented by Roush Industries at the SEMA show in 2004. It received a host of updates, including a cold air intake from AEM for the 3.5-liter V6 engine and a new dual-exit exhaust system.

Striking exterior and technical enhancements

To stand out at a show where the G6 was never the loudest car, the sedan received a Merles Opus Orange Yellow paint job, a special hood, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and a rear spoiler. The car also sits on 19-inch wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Mecum Auctions will put this car up for bidding in Nashville on September 26. Ownership history after SEMA is undisclosed, and Mecum has not published a confirmed mileage. The odometer in the photo shows 90 miles (145 km), although this could be a trip reading rather than the total mileage. In any case, the car’s appearance is in excellent condition; the paint still catches the light just as it did on the SEMA stand.

Updated interior and other auction lots

Roush also made several changes to the Pontiac’s interior. For example, new black-and-yellow leather Sparco seats were installed in the front, along with yellow accents on the dashboard and oil pressure and temperature gauges on the A-pillar. There are also Roush floor mats, a DC Sports front strut bar, and lowering Eibach springs, giving the car a more aggressive look.

Mecum Auctions

The Pontiac is not the only piece of Roush history to be sold at this auction. The same sale includes a 1995 Shelby Cobra Mustang SVT Cobra R, a 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra SCCA Trans-Am race car, and a 1926 Ford Model TT.

Additional context

This Pontiac G6 is an interesting artifact of automotive history, demonstrating how even ordinary models can get a second life thanks to tuning from famous companies. Roush, known for its Ford modifications, created a truly unique car that attracts attention not only for its striking looks but also for its rarity. Considering that most Pontiac G6s have long since disappeared from the roads, this example could become a valuable acquisition for collectors who appreciate unconventional and historically significant cars. The Mecum auction promises to be a real event for fans of the American auto industry and tuning.
