The New Škoda Epiq Electric Compact
Škoda has introduced its smallest electric crossover, the Epiq, which still conceals its final design under camouflage. The car is positioned as an affordable alternative to conventional ICE models, combining compact exterior dimensions with a spacious interior.
Key features of the new Škoda Epiq:
Dimensions and Practicality
The Epiq can be considered the younger brother of the Elroq and Enyaq models, as well as the electric version of the Kamiq. With a length of less than 4.2 meters and a wheelbase of over 2.6 meters, the car is ideal for the city. Despite its compact size, the manufacturer claims an impressive trunk volume of 475 liters, which increases to 1344 liters with the rear seats folded.
Technical Basis and Specifications
The Škoda Epiq will become the brand’s first model on the updated MEB Plus platform, which is focused on reducing costs. Unlike larger all-wheel-drive models, this crossover has front-wheel drive, which contributes to more efficient use of space.
Under the hood of the Epiq is Škoda’s first model on the new MEB Plus platform, an evolution of the Volkswagen Group’s electric architecture.
Available Variants and Performance
The base Epiq 35 version is equipped with a 114 hp motor, which accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds. It uses a 38.5 kWh LFP battery with a range of up to 315 kilometers, but the maximum charging speed is limited to 50 kW.
The Epiq 40 offers 133 hp and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.8 seconds, with a battery of the same capacity but supporting faster charging up to 90 kW. The most powerful version, the Epiq 55, has a 208 hp motor and a 55 kWh NMC battery, providing a range of up to 430 kilometers. Its acceleration time is 7.4 seconds, and the peak charging speed reaches 133 kW.
Interior and Competitors
The car’s interior is expected to feature the brand’s practical Simply Clever solutions, a 13-inch central screen, a small digital instrument panel, and extensive use of recycled materials. Final interior images will be presented soon.
The expected starting price of around $26,000 makes the Epiq an attractive proposition alongside the Kia EV3, although the latter offers more power and range in its base version. Serious competition also comes from the Renault 4 E-Tech due to its lower price, better performance, and more original design.
The arrival of the Škoda Epiq on the market could significantly revitalize the segment of affordable electric crossovers, especially in Europe. Its success will largely depend on the final price-to-quality ratio and real-world range under operating conditions. The brand’s emphasis on practicality and the familiar Škoda “more for your money” concept could be a decisive argument for buyers transitioning to electric vehicles from compact ICE models.
