Mitsubishi’s Most Popular Model to Switch to Hybrid Version by 2026

Mitsubishi Lineup Update: New Technologies and Design

Mitsubishi has introduced an updated version of the Outlander PHEV, which has received a revised design and an improved powertrain. Furthermore, the standard Outlander model is now equipped with a new hybrid engine, replacing the previous 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit.

In 2026, the Eclipse Cross will lose its built-in navigation—instead, customers will be offered the use of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The updates have affected the entire model lineup of the company in the USA, including new trim levels and technical improvements.

Update Details

The new 2026 version of the Outlander is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, similar to the one installed in the Eclipse Cross. It is paired with a mild hybrid system that improves acceleration dynamics. Although exact specifications have not been disclosed, it is known that this unit will replace the previous 2.5-liter engine.

The new hybrid system provides more confident dynamics thanks to electric assistance at low speeds.

Among other changes is the introduction of new trim levels, such as the LE, SEL Black Edition, and Ralliart. The updated Outlander PHEV has received a revised design, improved noise insulation, and an updated multimedia system with a screen up to 12.3 inches. New 20-inch wheels and an improved suspension have also been added.

The Outlander Sport remains without major changes but has received a special Trail Edition version with unique wheels and graphics. The Eclipse Cross, in turn, will lose its built-in navigation, and some trim levels will receive new emblems on the hood.

The updated models will begin arriving at dealers in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the Outlander PHEV will appear on the market in early 2026. The company is betting on electrification and improving comfort, which aligns with modern automotive industry trends. Particular attention is paid to hybrid technologies, which are becoming a main development direction for many manufacturers.
