Alfa Romeo and Maserati are preparing a joint project
Alfa Romeo and Maserati are likely working on creating a limited series of a sports car. Rumor has it that the model may be based on the Maserati GranTurismo platform and receive a manual transmission. The car is also expected to be equipped with an upgraded twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine producing over 621 horsepower.
Sources report that the new model could appear as early as next year and become the most exclusive internal combustion engine model from these brands since the Maserati MC12. Maserati engineer Davide Danesin hinted that this car might do without hybrid technologies, focusing on mechanical purity. He noted:
A manual transmission doesn’t make sense for mass-produced models, but for a limited series, it is completely justified.
The release of the model may be timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Maserati Tipo 26 – the brand’s first car. A version from Alfa Romeo, if it appears, could mark the centenary of the 6C 1500. The price of these cars is expected to significantly exceed that of the Maserati MC20.
Despite the lack of official confirmation, this project looks like a logical step for both brands, which have been actively updating their lineups in recent years. Using a shared platform will reduce development costs while preserving the individuality of each brand. The possibility of a manual transmission is of particular interest – a rare occurrence in modern high-performance sports cars.
