Auction house RM Sotheby’s has listed one of the rarest Porsche supercars. It is a 1989 Porsche 959 Sport, estimated at $5-6 million. This is one of only 29 cars of this modification produced and one of the best-preserved examples of the model. Writes RM Sotheby’s.
The Porsche 959 Sport is one of the brand’s rarest supercars

The Porsche 959 Sport was created as a lighter and more extreme version of the 959 Komfort model. To reduce weight, the car received a sports suspension instead of an adaptive one, four-point seat belts, a roll cage, fabric interior trim, and lost some comfort equipment.
Thanks to these changes, the car became approximately 100 kg lighter than the standard Porsche 959. The power of the 2.85-liter six-cylinder engine with two turbines was increased to 508 hp.
Between 1986 and 1989, Porsche produced a total of 292 examples of the 959 model, but only 29 cars were the Sport variant. This makes the version one of the most desirable among collectors.
The most expensive Porsche 959 Sport has a mileage of less than 5 thousand kilometers

The car offered at auction has the factory chassis number 5013. It is one of 11 Porsche 959 Sports painted in Grand Prix White, and also one of two known examples that received air conditioning at the factory.
Originally, the supercar was delivered to South Korea, and in 2007 it was purchased by German Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld. At his request, Porsche Classic carried out a major technical restoration of the car, completed in 2021. The work cost almost 115 thousand euros.

Currently, the car has had only three owners in its entire history and a mileage of 4788 km. It retains its original engine, technical documentation, tools, service materials, and is in a maximally authentic condition.
It is the combination of exceptional rarity, minimal mileage, known history, and a fully restored technical part that has allowed this Porsche 959 Sport to be valued at a record $5-6 million, making it one of the most expensive examples of the model ever offered at public auction.
