The new AMG S-Class hides more than just updated headlights

Mercedes-AMG S-Class receives updates

The new Mercedes-AMG S-Class has been spotted for the first time during testing. Among the key changes are LED daytime running lights in a star-shaped design, now installed both at the front and rear. This is part of the brand’s overall updated styling. Most likely, the model will retain its powerful 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 hybrid system, delivering 791 hp.

In terms of size and price, the S-Class significantly surpasses other Mercedes models, so its equipment appears more premium. For example, in the new CLA, the star-shaped DRLs are only placed one per headlight unit, while the S-Class has two. The prototype that was photographed features a more aggressive front bumper design compared to the standard version, but the main changes to the radiator grille will become visible after the official presentation.

Technical updates

The prototype was spotted with a camera mounted on the front fender—part of the new ADAS system. Although the S-Class already offers Level 3 autonomous driving, this camera could be part of even more advanced features. However, no lidar, typically used for such systems, was visible on the car’s roof.

Intel suggests the Panamericana vertical grille itself will look similar to the one on today’s S63, but the facelifted car’s grille will have a dark surround like the one on the smaller AMG that will stand out on cars ordered in white, silver or other light-colored paints.

The S63’s hybrid system may receive updates, particularly regarding the battery. Currently, its capacity is only 10.4 kWh, providing just 16 miles of electric range. It is expected that the new version will improve these figures. There are also rumors about the development of a new AMG engine, but it remains unknown whether it will appear in the S-Class.

The updated S-Class is likely to debut in 2026, following the presentation of the standard version. Given current trends, Mercedes continues to strengthen its electrified lineup, and the S63 will be no exception. The premium sedan remains one of the brand’s flagship technological showcases, so the expected changes will affect not only the design but also innovative safety and comfort systems.
