The next generation of the Audi RS6 may receive a hybrid V8 engine from Bentley, significantly boosting its performance. This is necessary for the model to maintain its leadership in the RS lineup, as the new RS5 already surpasses its predecessor in power.
Two development paths: V6 hybrid or V8 from Bentley
Audi engineers are considering two options for the C9-generation RS6, prototypes of which have already been spotted in wagon and sedan bodies. The first option involves using a hybrid system based on a 2.9-liter V6, similar to the RS5, but with over 630 hp. The second, more ambitious option, is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid setup from the Bentley Continental GT Speed, producing 771 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. This would allow the RS6 to compete on equal footing with the BMW M5.
“We know the importance of the RS6 to our history… rest assured, we are meticulous with every generation of the RS6. Each generation had its unique strengths, and the next generation will demonstrate that. I have driven at least 250,000-300,000 km in various RS6 generations. It is obvious to me where these cars diverge, and it is much more than a question of cylinder count,” said Audi Sport head Rolf Michl.
Sedan and wagon: new possibilities
Unlike the RS5, the new RS6 must be capable of towing trailers, yachts, and boats. The RS6 buyer profile differs from owners of younger models — this is a car for luxurious travel. Prototypes confirm that the new model will feature widened wheel arches, massive bumpers, and dual exhaust systems.

The new RS6 will be longer, wider, and more luxurious than the RS5. It will retain its status as a flagship sports car for long-distance travel, offering not only power but also practicality. The official presentation is expected after prototype testing is completed.
It is worth noting that the choice of powertrain will be key to the model’s positioning. Using the V8 from Bentley will not only provide a significant power boost but also emphasize the premium status of the RS6. At the same time, the V6 hybrid system may be more environmentally friendly and economical, aligning with modern trends. Audi’s decision will impact how the model competes with the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63, especially in markets with strict environmental regulations. Additionally, the return of the sedan to the RS6 lineup after a 15-year hiatus expands the audience of buyers who prefer the classic three-box body style.
