New Toyota Corolla Cross SUV gets a Land Cruiser grille

Toyota introduces anniversary edition of Corolla Cross for the Japanese market

Toyota has updated the Japanese version of the Corolla Cross, unveiling a special series to mark the 60th anniversary of the Corolla model. This SUV has received a more aggressive design and follows similar anniversary editions of the Corolla sedan and wagon, which are gradually approaching the end of their lifecycle.

Unique design and features of the Z Adventure

The new special edition, named Corolla Cross Z Adventure, stands out among other models in the Japanese lineup. Its grille is borrowed from the American non-hybrid version but features a different black finish and a matching logo, giving the car a unique appearance.

Stylistic additions include aluminum bumper garnishes, anniversary logos on the fenders, and 17-inch matte gray wheels. Body colors are limited to Urban Khaki, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Mud Bath, and Black Mica, each paired with a black roof.

Additional options and interior

For those seeking an even more aggressive look, an optional Z Adventure Set package is available. It includes a white Toyota emblem on the grille, similar to the Land Cruiser, and a special Meteor Coat finish for plastic body elements.

The interior of the Z Adventure features combined upholstery of synthetic leather and fabric in Mineral and Black colors, complemented by contrast stitching and Smoke Silver Metallic accents on the steering wheel, gear lever, and instrument panel.

Updates for other trims

In addition to the special edition, the Japanese Corolla Cross lineup has received several enhancements. High-end trims HEV Z and HEV GR Sport now come standard with a heated steering wheel and expanded ADAS safety systems. The safety package includes blind spot monitoring, a safe exit assist system, a panoramic view with a “transparent floor” function, and the Advanced Park automatic parking system.

Technical specifications and prices

Technically, the car remains unchanged. In Japan, the Corolla Cross is exclusively available with a hybrid powertrain. The front-wheel-drive version combines a 1.8-liter engine producing 97 hp (72 kW) with an electric motor delivering 94 hp (70 kW). All-wheel-drive E-Four models add a second electric motor on the rear axle with 40 hp (30 kW).

The updated Corolla Cross is already available for ordering in Japan. Prices start at 3,613,500 yen (approximately $22,400) for the base front-wheel-drive version and reach 4,077,700 yen ($25,300) for the flagship GR Sport. The anniversary Z Adventure edition with the E-Four system costs 3,921,500 yen ($24,300), while the version with the optional Z Adventure Set package is priced at 4,218,500 yen ($26,100).

This move by Toyota demonstrates its commitment to maintaining interest in the Corolla Cross model, which is gradually nearing the end of its lifecycle in the Japanese market. The anniversary series not only attracts brand enthusiasts but also allows the company to refresh the lineup without significant technical changes. It is worth noting that such special editions often become collectible and may see increased demand among buyers who value uniqueness. At the same time, the upgrade of safety systems in high-end trims indicates that Toyota continues to refine its vehicles even in the final stages of production, which is a positive signal for consumers.
