New Zeekr SUV Resembles a Rolls-Royce, Has Hypercar Power, But Runs on Fuel

New Model from Zeekr

The Zeekr brand, owned by Geely, continues to actively expand its lineup. Following the successful mid-size electric crossover 7X and the powerful flagship 9X, the company is preparing to launch a new model – the Zeekr 8X. As the name implies, this car will occupy an intermediate position between the two aforementioned crossovers.

Technical Features and Design

Images recently published by the Chinese Ministry of Industry allow for a detailed look at the design of the new vehicle. The base version inherited stylistic features from its older sibling, the 9X, including a chrome grille inspired by Rolls-Royce, characteristic headlights, and an aggressive front bumper.

In addition to the standard version, a sport version will also be presented. It will differ with a black grille, wheel rims, orange brake calipers, a roof spoiler, and a more pronounced rear diffuser.

The flagship 8X version is reported to develop up to 1381 horsepower.

Powertrain and Interior

The standard 8X is expected, similar to the 9X, to receive a hybrid powertrain rather than a fully electric one. It is based on a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, which will work in tandem with three electric motors and battery packs of two capacities: 55.1 kWh and 70 kWh.

The question of whether the sport version will receive additional power tuning or if it will be merely a visual package remains open for now. The interior, traditionally for Zeekr, promises to be of high quality and technologically rich, with a large number of screens and cabin layout options for five or six seats.

The arrival of the Zeekr 8X on the market will further intensify competition in the premium crossover segment. The brand demonstrates a clear strategy of filling all niches, offering high-level technology at a relatively competitive price. The success of the 7X model has already proven that Chinese manufacturers can create world-class products, so high performance and build quality are also expected from the new 8X. Particularly interesting is the decision to use a hybrid, rather than a purely electric, setup for this model, which could expand the circle of potential buyers.
