Updated Hyundai Elantra gets aggressive design and artificial intelligence

Hyundai introduced the new Avante (Elantra) on the Korean market

Hyundai has officially introduced the eighth generation of the Avante model, known as the Elantra in the North American market. The premiere took place in South Korea six years after the debut of the previous version. The compact sedan has become larger, featuring sharper design cues, a completely revamped interior with modern multimedia systems, artificial intelligence, and advanced safety features. The gasoline and hybrid powertrains have also been improved.

Design and exterior

Visually, the new Avante is radically different from previous generations. Thanks to the “Art of Steel” design concept, the car has a more sporty and muscular appearance. The first thing that catches the eye is the sharper body lines and sculptural fenders reminiscent of the Lamborghini Urus. The front is equipped with split LED headlights with ultra-thin daytime running lights, while the main blocks are integrated into the bumper air intakes.

The side windows are stylistically similar to those of the larger Grandeur sedan, combined with massive rear wheel arches and new 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. The rear looks quite futuristic: vertical and horizontal LEDs form an H-shaped lighting pattern, featuring a dual diffuser and a massive ducktail spoiler.

Dimensions and interior space

The new model has the following dimensions: length — 4,765 mm, width — 1,855 mm, height — 1,425 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Thus, the car is 55 mm longer and 30 mm wider than its predecessor, and the wheelbase has increased by 30 mm.

According to Hyundai representatives, the increased dimensions have significantly expanded the interior space, bringing it closer to the level of mid-size sedans. The updated dashboard now features a large freestanding display running the new Pleos Connect multimedia system with a generative AI agent “Gleo AI.” This technology is already used in the flagship updated Grandeur.

Powertrains

For the Korean market, the Avante will be offered with two engine options. The improved version of the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine produces 147 horsepower, which is 26 hp more than its predecessor. The second option is a self-charging hybrid system with a more efficient 1.6-liter engine, a more powerful electric motor, and a larger battery. The total power of the hybrid is 155 horsepower.

President and CEO of Hyundai Motor, Jose Munoz, noted: “The new Avante is a model that sets a new standard in its class, combining unparalleled design, interior space, safety, and digital experience.”

This is a developing story and will be updated…

It is worth noting that the new Avante takes a serious step forward not only in design but also in technological equipment. The introduction of artificial intelligence into the multimedia system and the increase in dimensions indicate Hyundai’s desire to compete not only with direct rivals in the compact class but also to offer a level of comfort and functionality closer to older models. The increase in power for both the gasoline and hybrid engines also demonstrates that the manufacturer pays attention to dynamic characteristics without forgetting efficiency.
